Ford Field Finale Against Penn State

Ford Field

The anticipation leading up to our last performance of the season is electric, and traveling to Ford Field adds an extra layer of excitement across the band. Performing at Ford Field is a thrilling chance for the SMB to showcase our talents at a new venue and a perfect way to celebrate a season filled with dedication and success.

For Spartan Marching Band members, traveling for a performance is always a thrilling endeavor. When asking band members what they’re most excited about performing at Ford Field,  band members had a variety of responses. Senior feature twirler Marissa Pierce shared she is most excited for, “marching pregame and halftime for the very last time at Ford Field. It’s a great way to end out my 4 years in the SMB, and I can’t wait to do it with some of my best friends.”

4th-year drum major Lacy Jewell expressed that she is most excited for the “opportunity to perform at a location the band has never performed at before. I’m excited we get to keep our gameday traditions alive at a different venue, bringing Spartan pride to Detroit.”

SMB Trumpets in the Stands Cheering

Nearly half of MSU’s fanbase stems from Southeast Michigan. Needless to say, many SMB members and Spartans are diehard Detroit Lions fans, making our trip to Ford Field that much more special. 4th-year trombone Ryan Lampman said, “I'm most excited to stand on the same ground Dan Campbell spends every game day, and potentially being able to maybe smell a little bit of his sweat that has fallen into the turf at any point. To be that close to him would be a blessing for me, honestly.”

I’m certain we can all agree with 5th year tenor saxophone Adam Karas when he stated he’s, “Most excited for the warm weather inside Ford Field”. As we come together for our last game of the season, let’s celebrate our chance to stand on the same ground at Dan Campbell, warm Ford Field weather, and most importantly, the monumental season the SMB has had. We look forward to performing for you one last time this year and eagerly anticipate taking the field this Friday.
